MIDSUMMER GREETINGS

Here again is an example of Art illustrating Knapp life in the 1890's.

Although the presses at the Knapps, produced many picture cards for Woolson Spice & Lion's coffee, this is a very rare one because it is labeled Knapp & Co. which only appeared for about one year in 1890 after Richard Major retired from Major & Knapp Lithographers. By 1891 "Big JF" Joseph Fairchild Knapp and his son Joe Palmer had their BIG Fight with J. P. buying his father out in a stock takeover & getting disinherited. The name on the building and the printed matter then became Jos. P. Knapp Co. which remained until 1892 when J. P. started his mega printing conglomerate, The American Lithographic Co. After the turn of the century he revived the Knapp name again as Knapp Co. minus the & for much of American Lithographic's art work prints and it again appeared on millions of post cards, calendars, sheet music and ready to hang framed artwork.
