THE MARCHIANO BROTHERS
Nat & Nick
I mentioned in the first chapter about Long Island Bands, that I saw the Kingsmen at Madison Square Garden about 1962. Nat Marchiano of Bellport was their guitar player then. He played a Black Gretsch Duo - Jet during his stint with the Kingsmen. He was an outstanding player.
When Nat left the Kingsmen in 1964, his kid brother Nicky, who also was a fine guitarist, took that spot. I wrote about my personal experiences with Nicky, in my music bio book, If The Devil Danced. Nicky was always the life of the party, but one time his antics nearly got my head blown off with a 38 snub nose. No hard feelings though ....
I have to say sadly that Nicky's name is on my LI musicians memorial page, He died way too young in 1982, as he was only in his mid 30's.
For many years, several musicians told me Nat was also deceased, but I am happy to say he is alive and well. Bassist Rick Chainey, who supplied me with the B & W pics of the Crestmen & Kingsmen and was in both outfits, found Nat with the US Embassy in Venezuela, some time ago. This past week, I found Nat playing in duo for a Daniel Pearl memorial concert down in Caracas. Thanks to the internets, it is now on youtube. Nat along with his buddy John Connerly, perform two seperate tunes, Simon & Garfunkle's Sounds of Silence and this one, The Youngblood's, Get Together, which I found especially moving considering the occassion. Nat is the one sitting on the left and playing all the fills.
IF YOU HAVE ANY PHOTOS OR MEMORABILIA OF THE GROUPS OR MUSICIANS, THAT ARE MENTIONED ON THESE PAGES, I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU
