THE OTHER "GOIN' OVER"

Just a few pulls on the oar heading south of the road goin' over towards Indian Landing, lied a heavier duty version one. First built in 1882 to carry Mr. Corbin's Iron Horse over the river to points east like Forge (Mastic), Centre Moriches, Speonk and all the way to Montauk. They rebuilt it in 1910 and ever the promoter F. J. Quinby used it's construction to promote his TANGIER "development of the century" on the east bank of Carmens River.

BACK SO SOON? HEADING WEST TO PATCHOGUE

I was fortunate enough to witness a scene like this in Eastport in 1954. That's the "goin' over" just west of Southaven at the South Country Road & Montauk Highway Fork. I have a lot of Patchogue stories that relate to when I lived in Mastic Beach 1950-64 and with actually living in Patchogue for 10 years I plan on doing some Patchogue Pages in the future... But for now just down the road ahead lies Brookhaven!
