THE KNAPP PLAN

Way Back in the early daze of this website, when I didn't know J. F. Knapp from J. P. Knapp and from J. F. Knapp, one of the first articles I ever found on line was this one about J. P. Knapp's weighing in during the 1930's to the US Govt on how to help get out of the depression. And of the Govt coming to his apartment on Park Av for advice. I would read more about The Knapp Plan through the years, but never knew any of the specifics.

Well (thanks to Google and interlibrary loans) I found it in a Govt Issued Book. It was a brief written by J P Knapp himself and presented to the congress by his number one go to guy Thom Beck in Feb of 1933. The new president FDR would not be inaugurated for another month (March 20th) and the New Deal was still a ways down the road. For the record the administration went with The Harriman Plan.

Although Knapp was a staunch Republican and supported Hoover until he realized Hoover and his group had no clue how to fix the mess they helped create, the ideas he presents in The Knapp Plan (that he states were never intended for publication) would probably get him branded a Socialist by the crowd that speaks for the GOP today .....

IT SEEMS VERY TIMELY TO DISCOVER IT NOW, CONSIDERING THAT IN SOME WAYS HISTORY IS REPEATING ITSELF, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY IT'S A REVEALING LOOK INTO ONE OF THE SHARPER BUSINESS & HUMANTARIAN MINDS OF THE LATE 19th & EARLY 20th CENTURIES
