Cruising The Connecticut or Channeling The Carmens
Another river with two names, This one runs on the western side of Mastic Neck and seperates the towns of Shirley & Brookhaven. The Carmen family who ran several business on it,got their name attached to it sometime after they married into to the Tangier Smith family. Squassocks Landing on the western bank was always a major landmark and departure point. When Joseph P. Knapp leased the Carmens River from the Tangier Smiths in 1894 - 1899, his lease ran from Squassocks Landing north to the "Going Over" which is where the Montauk Highway crosses it in Southaven today.

Sqaussocks aka Sqaussox Landing
As We Headed North From Squassocks I Realised This Is Just What J. P. Knapp saw in 1894
Its also what Major Ben Talmadge & His men saw in November of 1780 As they made their way along it to attack the British at Fort St. George. History Flows On!!!
That Is Indian Landing Dead Ahead
As we headed south and were approaching the bay we came up on this sailor who had just hoisted his sail
And so we too set for home.
