CRETE
"The Icing On The Cake"
4/5 - 4/10
Each place we stopped was truly fantastic and really could not be compared with each other. But for me the icing on the cake was Crete. Lets face it ,,, Crete's an Island and I'm an Islander.... Had I not been born on Long Island, I would of been born on Guam. The sea is part of me. Heck I walked right into it on Bluepoint LI at 18 months old in the dead of January 1949 , while my father stared incredously before plucking me out.

XANIA , HANIA , CHANIA
This city is so old it has three ways to spell it
HERE'S HARBOR WHERE WE STAYED
THE ARROW POINTS OUT OUR HOTEL

From our Hotel Window

In the Crete Naval Museum (Red building) across from the lighthouse, Anne was quite suprised to see three of her uncle George Orologas' ship models

The Lighthouse was built in the 1500's by the Venetians

"JULIANNA"
Memories of my clamming days on Long Island

And of my days on the creeks too .....

I call it Nik's Place.... Our Host Nikolaos Antoiniou at his dockside Vasiliko's Taverna in Hania
We had a great time with him and ate there twice.

TOTALLY UNEXPECTED
I heard this music from our hotel the first afternoon in Crete and set out to investigate
It was Fernanda Jose Wayra 's group playing live in the Town Square
AND THEY WERE PLAYING THIS VERY POWERFUL SONG AS I SNAPPED THIS PIC
( Yuraj toro aka The White Buffalo)
Here was a South American Indian group based in Athens playing a tune that was partially composed for the American film Last Of The Mohicans .....giving creedence to MUSIC the universal language that connects all of us
