" Days on Dogwood"
This computer generated scene CLICK ON IT TO ENLARGE suggests
how "Dodi's Place" might of looked from the field that
was in the rear of the house. Back then there was a dirt road
to go left to his boat on Dock Rd. or right to Knapp Rd. to leave
town. In June of 1938, as the town of Mastic Beach circled ever
closer, it became part of Dogwood Road.
Did J. F. Knapp own a Bentley and a
Jaguar? Lets just say if I could on a baymens wages, he certainly
could of filled his Lacrosse field, Golf course and Tennis court with Bentley's,
Jag's, Rolls', and Duesenburg or two.
The long garage was built in two sections
and was torn down probably to make way for the auditorium that
St. Jude's planned to build here in 1950. There was a tunnel that
connected the house to the garage. You can get a nice 8"
x 10" print by clicking on the picture. I hope to be adding
more artwork in the future. I understand that an old classmate
from Floyd, Joe Fernandez is working on a painting of the mansion
as I type!
