Sarony, Major & Knapp Lithography
started using color as early as the 1840's and became the largest
American producers of sheet music covers by the 1870's
Copyright is 1898 Joseph P Knapp, Knapp
Co. NY.
In addition to providing all sorts
of ads for many companies they also printed ads for one that was
very close to home. For in 1871 Joseph Fairchild Knapp became
the second president of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
Just like Charlie Brown today saying
"Get Met...It Pays", J. F. Knapp seemed to know the
value of using little children in advertising for his new company.
Under his leadership Met Life rose to become the leader in 'industrial
insurance' over John Hancock and Prudential. The assets of the
company by 1891 were well over 13 million dollars.
