THE BIG FAT SLOB IS BACK IN TOWN
This photo taken in 1935 at Jack Dempsey's
Restaurant, seems appropiate on the 69th anniversary this month
of the big fight
in Bimini between Ernest Hemingway & Joseph Knapp. When
Hemingway got back to NYC, he made his rounds at Twenty One, The
Stork Club and here at Dempsey's. A very amused Bernie Gimble
the Department Store magnate is prompting Hemingway perhaps to
tell that Big Fat Slob story to their two Heavy weight champion
table mates Gene Tunney on the left and Jack Dempsey on the right.
My
grandfather Jack Spooner ran Dempsey's Restaurant for a time when
he took a sabbatical of sorts from the Stork Club .
