A TALE OR TWO OF TWO TOWNS

PATCHOGUE & CENTER MORICHES

LOOKING WESTWARD IN CENTER MORICHES 1930's

The two BIG TOWNS that were closest to Mastic Beach were Patchogue to the west and Center Moriches to the east. Both played important roles in my early life and the entire Mastic area story. Over the 4 years that I have been working on this, I've accumulated a lot of photos of both places and also have a bunch of stories about them . My sister graduated from Center Moriches High School, because Mastic had no school past the 8th grade. My uncle Lester Joseph lived in Center Moriches most of his life. Patchogue was always a treat to visit as a kid and I lived there from 1964 - 1973. I heard that Dodi Knapp met Frank & Louise Lawrence, who sold him their Mastic estate in 1916 at one of the Center Moriches summer hotels. Any way with apologies to Charles Dickens , I will be telling some tales of two cities and adding many old photos of both in the weeks to come.
