In The 1940's -1960' The words DICKS around Mastic Beach only meant one thing. This Soda Fountain, Deli, Grocery on the northeast corner of Neighborhood & Whittier of "Old Town" sometimes called "Small Town". Dick and Agnes Nordqvist originally from the Bronx remodeled the original 1927 Trywusch /1930's Costello Mastic Beach Store in the 1940's. (See Before It Was Dick's...) The Norqvidsts were still going strong when I left in 1964. In the 40's they continued renting the two tourist cabins next door to it. Friends of the Tzoucalis family stayed in the cabins during a end of WWII party held up the road at Camp Crumbun which is also pictured (see 4 Aces & A Queen) in this spotlight section, The main building is still there today, but I'm sure this photo (courtesy Van Field ) will bring back a flood of memories for anyone who was there when it was DICK'S
