West Lake in Mastic 1920's

Looking south easterly towards Montauk Hwy. from the western shore on the Mastic side. This lake and the other one to east of it are the headwaters of the Forge River and have been known as the Twin Ponds for as long as I can remember, This photo was published by Mastic pioneer businessman Charles Trywusch. I understand there are several homes from the 1920's still along the shore road (Rutland Ave.) Most were constructed from lumber obtained from Camp Upton after WWI. This photo postcard bears the Mastic postmark of Aug 13, 1930 and was addressed to Mrs F. Kraus in College Point LI. It says: Dear Elsie We are camping here for the week with the family. Write soon Love Girlie
