On The Inside Looking Out .....

There is a whole bunch of photos & info on J. P. Knapp's New York City residence at the luxury co-op apartment known as River House located here.

On this page I am attempting to give you glimpse of what it was like on the inside. Helped by a photo taken from a typical sun room that each apartment had and by a brochure of an exhibit of The Knapp Collection that is held by the University Of North Carolina.I hope to be able to photograph some of it when I visit the campus in 2004.

"Feeling Groovy"

I don't know if J. P. and Margaret felt groovy when they looked out their window at the 59th Street Bridge, but they probably felt pretty good. These sun parlor windows actually hung right over the east river giving a spectacular view. It's much better than looking across a street and seeing another building.Even it's on Park Avenue ,which was where the Knapp's moved from in 1936. J. P passed away at River House in January 1951.
