"YA
GOTTA HAVE ART"
Marion H. Knapp Conley's
Gifts To The Smithsonian
I don't know when Marion acquired
these two paintings, done six years before she was born, by Thomas
Moran in 1900 , but when she was married to Joseph F. Knapp from
1930's -1952 would be a reasonable guess. Could they have once
hung in the Knapp Mansion in Mastic Beach? Or their Isle Of Palms
Home in Fort Lauderdale? Or the last place she shared with Dodi
Knapp..... Cove Point in Hampton Bays? They certainly were in
the Conley Apartment in NYC. They could of been in all of these
places and more. The only fact that I know for sure is that she
left them in her will and they were a gift in her name after her
husband Stanley L. Conley died in the fall of 1987.
