The Beach Garage

Judging by this photo (taken after 1938 Hurricane) you would think the Beach Garage was located on the beach, It wasn't It was right on Neighborhood Road by the 5 corners in the heart of Mastic Beach . The garage is just visible on the left. That's Bill Parr in the boots carrying Bill Stiritz. and the Beach Tavern (now Handy Pantry) on the right.

HIGHER & DRYER
In 1949 , But it was no longer Parr's (Bill died in 1946) and soon not to be anyones garage. Not sure who ran it here but they moved the pumps from the side to the front. In the early '50's it became an appliance store.

EYTHEL or REGULAR?

Estelle "manning" the pumps about 1942. Six years later Pat & Mike would build their Texaco

where that building in the background is.

"WILLY"

Bill Parr's '36 Chevy Coupe that he made estate calls in.

January 2003

Sixty three years after Bill Parr opened it you couldn't get gas, but you could fax, ship, copy, print, and get your taxes prepared. Actually through most of the 1950's & '60's it was mainly a closed up building. In 1938 it served as a an emergency room when a M B Fireman fell off a Fire Truck.

October 2003

About a week before I arrived someone drove into it. Didn't anyone tell them there's no gas here anymore.

Will it last another Sixty Three Years?

Sixty Three Days?
