Before the Cardamones moved Fannie's
to the Mastic & Knapp Rd triangle (where the school buses
are today) and added a bowling alley they were located right in
"new town" near the Parr Garage. Pizza in the '40's
was a novelty.
I bought my first 45 RPM record at
the Center Moriches H.G. Grand (Elvis' Don't Be Cruel/ Houndog)
and bought many more at their 5 & 10 in the Beach along with
cap guns, models, toy cars, water pistols etc. Irene Miller owned
the Kozy Korner
I think this was next door to the Sto p
& Shop
Bohacks was renting Paul
Schulte's Deli & General Store
Paul's main business during WWII was
his tavern, but it appears he was still selling Deli , Groceries
& Ice Cream too. Charles Ammon was the sales manager for Home
Guardian . The other salesmen that worked with him were David
Simon, Harry Bloomquist, Sam Leiber, Walter Ury, and Nat Weisser.
Fishing Stations were all over town back then...Mike & Walter's
was still there when I grew up in the '50's. It later became Longo's
then Keenan's and is now a private residence with a fantastic
view. The White Pillar was the remaing tower
at the fork entrance to Mastic Beach . The center tower was
knocked down by a car in the 1930's. Henry Offerman the driver
was killed. Fred's Boat House was across the road from Captain
Andy's.
