THE MORICHES
APRIL 21, 1876
This list of "MEN THAT WERE PRESENT AT THE MASTIC FIRE" clearly shows how Mastic
was dependant on Moriches for manpower. Many names should be familiar to regular "Knappsters"
Merrit Cash Penney, Egbert & William Smith, John Robert etc.

TRADE CARD 1887
Spooner Collection

The perfume that was on this card 117 years ago is long gone, but the print tells you clearly where it came from.

I would date this photo early 1900's, Notice there are now signs for a public telephone. The main building was put up in 1815.

August 2004
At some point in his house moving career Clarence G. Penney 1886-1973 (Willis Penney's brother) moved the main 1815 building behind his house which was possibly at one time Edmund Hallocks house. It sits today with a bunch of other buildings Clarence collected from all over Moriches and Mastic. The entire conglamoration of outbuildings and sheds is now called "Barntique Village"

The Clarence Penney house after the hurricane of Sept 21,1938 / Edith & Clarence 50th Anniversary 1958. Edith's maiden name was Ross.

Since it's de-commission as a US Post Office, there have been two other buildings replacing it on the south side of Montauk Highway. This was the one that was there when I lived in the area. It was probably built in the 1930's. Mrs. Walkman was the Postmaster there from 1943 - 69 .
