CAROL'S PICS

Carol Ohlson Larson sent me these snapshots several years back but asked me to refrain from posting them till one of us heard from the Baesslers who figure in many of them. That was remedied this past week when I heard from both Bill and his sister Caroline. Bill is preparing to send me a whole bunch more from the Baessler Family Scrapbooks so stay tuned.......

"LUCKY"

Everyone I ever talk with about growing up where and when we did, always says "we were lucky". I'm sure if Lucky could talk he would concur (pun intended) Lucky was a stray that the Baesslers adopted. He looks like he has a lot of Chow in him? Wonder if we could trace him back to Claire Knapp's "Clairedale" Kennel.

BIG OL' TREES

We Had Sure Had Them , whether they were vertical or horizontal (like this lopped one) they were great to play on. Many were around from before the British Army controlled all of Mastic. Here we find Lucky, Gladys, Caroline, Billy, and Carol taking a break.

PUMPS IN THE YARD

Just about every house built there from the 20's to the 40's had one. Many kitchens did too

BIKER CHICKS ON WASHINGTON DRIVE

It had a whole different connotation back then. Looking north toward Queen Rd. The home on the left was The Gilberts

The girls are most likely Baessler & Olhson

Summertime and the living is easy

especially if you were a kid. Here are Carol Ohlson Larson, Caroline Baessler & Marge Muller Tuthill at 125 Washington Drive in section two.

Beach One : looks like low tide & Lucky is most likely having a good time here with a Baessler city cousin named Carol

Good Ol Winter Time

Caroline & Carol preparing the ice for skating on Lawrence Creek. Lawrence or O'dulls Creek as the colonists called it runs along the border of the William Floyd Estate on Park Dr and Old Church Mill Roads seperating it from the Woodhull (O'dull's) estate. The Lawrences married into the Woodhull family in the early 1800's

Thanks again to Carol Ohlson Larson for these....glad we finally got to post them

AND SPEAKING OF ICE & SKATES & KIDS OF ALL AGES

FLOYD FRESHMAN

Lots Of Ice , But No Skates, No Coats & No Brains Either

Down at the Lagoon on Christmas Day 1960. Jacky Rutigliano and Me freezing my ass off.

Here's Jack's parents Gertie & Mike Rutigliano skating away on the St. Jude's Rink circa 1952. Jack recently paid me a visit here in Nashville and we relived a whole lot of old times together chronicled in My Old Yellow Car Part Two.....

And below are Gloria & Bill Baessler at the St, Judes rink in 1954. Bill was with the Brookhaven PD from 1948-1959 then with the SCPD till he retired in 1971. I hope to soon have some of his photos from his days on the Brookhaven force
