FORGING AHEAD

From Beach One we headed eastward around Floyd Point and up the Forge River. The Forge named for the iron forge that was once located at the headwaters by Montauk Highway in Mastic, was originaly known as Mastik River. It runs north along the eastern shore of Mastic Beach and Mastic seperating it from Moriches.

There are three creeks that run off the western bank of the Forge that run into what was once all of William Floyds estate and the Poosepatuck Indian Reservation. Home Creek #5, Lon's Creek 6 and Poosepatuck Creek 7.

Back On The Forge north of Lon's Creek Is Nicholl Floyd's home still standing strong

The home has not been in the Floyd Family since Ella Dana sold it. She lived there with her first husband W. E. Baker from 1915 -1928 and kept in her divorce from Baker. She also spent time there with her second husband William Shepherd Dana. I think she sold it in the mid 1950's . At one time in the 1970's John Lennon considered purchasing it.
