BOATING TRIP OCT 19, 2005

Knapp's Cove

Whether on land or at sea, there's no way I can pass this spot with a camera and not take a few shots. I can almost see the Storm King coming out the dock.

"The Smiths Lived Here" Another landmark that always says "Just Shoot Me "...of course with those two cannons pointing back at you, you take your chances when you raise the viewfinder

We tied up at the Violet Cove for lunch ..but it will always be Captain Andy's to all three of this crew. In the summer of 1961 all three of us were heading for our sophomore year at Floyd. After lunch I took the guys to the creek behind Capn' Andy's to show them the building where I spent most of my summer that year. Nick Chapman's Outboard Shop

Kenny and I are standing where Nick Chapman and his co pilot Carl Abel stood in 1961 for the press photogs. The occasion they had just won the Around Long Island Marathon boat race.... I used to pump gas on the dock behind us. Sheeps Pen Creek is now lined with some very high tech watercraft hailing from as far south as Florida and north as Michigan. It also has a few traces of the past along its banks.

Of course you can't just go out on the bay without visiting Fire Island and after lunch that's just where we headed
