A DAY AT THE BEACH

Frequent contributor Charlie Tzoucalis has sent in this photo of his mother Anne enjoying a day at Beach One in Mastic Beach circa late 1940's early 1950's. In the background you see one of the two gazebos that were originaly located at the head of Lagoon and Lundgren's concession stand. Beach One was where I learned to swim. It was named for the section of Mastic Beach it was located in. It was closed for years but has recently been reopened. However the stand that sold hot dogs, soda and ice cream along with the gazebo that offered a shady spot to eat them in are sadly long gone.
