UP ON THE ROOF

Jan 2005

Two years ago when I visited with Bob Muse to tour the inside of his "Woodhull Lodge" , he mentioned his plans to match up the then flat roof addition to the original 1850 home . Last summer he started and this week you can see it's nearing completion. It's all diamond and fishscaled wood shingles like the original with perfectly matching doghouse dormers. A few shingles on the side and it will done. This home and it's sister 1840's home "The Dermody House" were once part of the Woodhull/ Smith/ Lawrence/ Knapp estates and are the oldest existing privately owned homes in Mastic Beach. It is always good to see what little history is left of the town being well cared for. You can visit both homes and read their histories in the links below.
