These little books were published by
St. Andrew's Church starting in the late 1930's - 40's. They give
a great view of what was going on and who was there then. If anyone
out there has knowledge of where I can find a 1938-39 issue please contact me.
This early WWII one is courtesy of George Barnes.
The phone exchange was Center Moriches
and a very small percentage of residents had telephones. Many
were people who also had a business. Like Izzy Sirulnik, Bob DeCordova,
Fred Schait etc. Notable in this group to me is George Sutter,
the new owner of the Knapp Mansion. George as you may know rented
out rooms in it , but I still have not been able to find anyone
who knew anything about him.
Thirty one of the eighty nine pages
in this book were like this. With the names and addresses of the
resident (most had a city address ) Followed by the section lived
in and the road , corner or nearest crossroad.
The rest of the book was full of ads
like these. Vandenburgs was located on the corner of Aspen and
Whittier in the original town. It was also the first M B Post
