NEW YORK
NEW YORK
I had no idea it was still standing, but as
I walked down Park Ave there was no mistaking the place that Joseph
Palmer Knapp built for his new American Lithographic Company he
started in 1892. This 12 story building went up in the very early
1900's and it's original address was 52 E 19th street. It's located
at the Southwest corner of 4th Ave & 19th. This was also where
Dodi Knapp worked until 1929. The Knapp Company and Sea Sled Boat
Company builder of Dodi's speedboat "Miss Demure" also
had their showroom here. I seem to recall a very simular railing
on the terraces of Dodi's Mastic Beach mansion. Just wait till
you see the rest of it!
MET LIFE & KNAPP NY LANDMARKS
# 1 Madison Square as seen from
23rd St & Madison Square Park. The huge castle like building
on the left was put up in the 1930's. The tower in the early 1900's,
the boxes on the right replaced the original Metropolitan Life
building in the 1950's. Blessed Insurance For All!
The Knapps Lived Here ?
I Thought They Did And That This corner building wass the remains of 247 5th Ave , where J. P. & Elizabeth Knapp had a huge apartment from about 1908-1922. How huge was it? .... well when Dodi came of age in 1913 Elizabeth had a party in it for 150 people. The Building #s Were Not Visible When I Was There ....How Close Was I To The Real 247?

THE AKC LIBRARY
on Madison Ave was a definite highlight.
I found lots of great stuff on the Knapps and their friends and
their lifelong involvement with dogs.
Psst...wanna buy a bridge? Walking
with my son Erik across the Brooklyn Bridge
was another first! Wonder how many times Joseph & Phoebe crossed
over it.
Other places I visited were Park Row where
J.P. had his N. Y. Recorder Newspaper in the 1890's and Church
& Park Pl. which was the original location of Met Life. And
56 Park Place the home of Major & Knapp Litho from 1870-1892.
Both locations have traces of the 19th century and are just about
2 Blocks from where the World Trade Center stood.
