INSIDE THE CUB
ROOM AT THE STORK CLUB
Sherman Billingsley
Opening Up The Joint
In the 1940's Illustrator Albert Dorne
painted a "typical night" in the Cub Room at the Stork
Club for big Joe Knapp's Collier's Magazine. This illustration
was used as the menu cover from that time on. As Sherman Billingsley
moves amongst his regulars like Dorothy Killgallen , Arthur Godfrey,
Tallulah Bankhead, Walter Winchell etc. Little Henny Rasch is
seen with her camera snapping away recording some type of NYC
Nitelife History.
Henny took over 5000 photos during
her nights at the Stork and she was just one of the several in
house photogs.
It Was The #1 Place In NYC To Be Seen
In & Sherman Billingsley knew the full
value of that.
