SECTION THREE OF MASTIC BEACH

Comprised of Hannah Lawrence Sherman's share of the Charles W. Lawrence Estate and opened by Home Guardian Co. six months after Sections One & Two in November of 1926. Section Three's eastern border was the western border of the Knapp Estate and from there it ran all the way to the eastern shore of Pattersquash Creek. The centerpiece that Home Guardian used in their early publicity about it, was that they had aquired The Woodhull Lodge, Hannah Lawrence's show place home in the deal . Apparantley when it was surveyed for filing the map with the town, they found that Hannah's home which was moved westerly in 1896 still fell short by a few feet of their actual border (The Center Of Locust Drive) and it remained as part of the Knapp Estate until 1940. What they did aquire though was the original Charles Jeffery Smith home just across the western side Locust Drive (He actually built both of homes circa 1850 & 1858. A school teacher from Queens named T Malcom Garrity quickly purchased the C. J. Smith house from Home Guardian and then followed along with another 19th century home on Magnolia Drive and turned it into a showplace. It continues that way today. The Hannah Smith home which was used by Knapp's WW1 Aviators was used mainly for game storage and fell into total disrepair a decade after Knapp sold his estate. It was saved from being raised by the Muse Family in 1948 and like it's companion C. J. Smith home remains the true jewels of Section Three.
