THE MASTICS ... From Blueblood to Bluecollar
Part Three
Of A Trilogy
This story,
project, odyssey or call it what you will, started with a little
story "The Mansion" about a big house that was in my
backyard in Mastic Beach during the 1950's. It is part of a collection
of short stories I have written under the title of
"Buzz & Pee Wee Butchie & Me"
From there
I have gone into a much deeper story "The
Knapps Lived Here" about the Knapp family who owned that
big house, long before I got there and what their lives and the
lives of the few others that lived in the Mastic area must of
been like. That has also led me to discover a deeper history that
existed on the neck known as Mastick going back to the beginnings
of America.
Which has
led me to start working on a third project that sometimes overlaps
with the other two but seems very worthy of it's own story. So
although some of the links that appear on this page overlap with
the others, what we will have here is strictly links that apply
to the Mastic Area. A neck of land on the South Shore of Long
Island that is bordered on the west by the Connecticut or Carmens
River , on the South by the Narrow Bay and the east by the Mastick
or Forge River
